Ammovec Or Ammo-lock

right the tank has been running 3 weeks it has 8 zebra danios in it and the ammonia has spiked. i was advised by the aquatic centre to use ammovec and nitrovec right from the begining which i have been doing i would just like to know if ammovec works the same as ammo-lock. please i am new to this and a little confused by the whole thing.

Using chemicals can often mess up a cycle more then it can help. The best thing to do would be to stick with water changes.

because they want your money.

whilst I was impressed with Seras ammovec and nitrivec when working in a LFS that sold it, the same results were acheived by not using them.
if you are experianceing an ammonia spike the best thing you can do is a few partial water changes evey day untill the levels fall to zero.
if you really want to spend your money go buy some bactinettes which are live nitrifying bacteria that will help speed up the cycle.

hi where can i buy that?

my tank stats are

ammonia 8.0ppm

nitrites 0.25ppm

nitrates 10ppm

ph 7.0

should i use zeolites or something like that to reduce the ammonia and what one i have a fulval 3 plus filter.

I just noticed you are in Hartley. can you get yourself down to Aylesford aquatics on the A20?
they sell Bactinettes in there. Tell Wayne or Lee what your problem is and that Paul (me) suggested you go there. It would help if you took a water sample too as they can see exactly what your levels are (no harm in a second test to prove/disprove the first)

I guess that you use Heaver aquatics a lot, it is ok but Aylesford is far better Wayne and Lee will not sell you anything you don't need and can be 100% trusted. I used to work there and even though I was made redundant, I still go there and would still recomend them.

have a read of the link in my sig 'what's cycling?' which should explain a bit more about these products and what to do when cycling with fish

i have done a 10% water change this morning and have done another water test the results are

Tank Size 35 gallons

8.0 ppm ammonia

7.5 ph

0.1 ppm nitrite

20 ppm nitrate

the ammonia is worrying me more than anything should i do a 50% water change. the milky water has cleared though. Is there anything else i can do about this ammonia should i even be doing the water changes? sorry for being a pest guys.

the link i directed you too should explain all this, but yes you need to do water changes, lots of them to keep the ammonia manageable for the fish, 20% a day minimum IMO

Is ammovec not for marine tanks? The information I found when searching said "Special blend of saltwater purification bacteria".
