Ammonia

I have placed john innes no 3 soil under my gravel  and find I am having high  ammonia readings    8 ppm  is the norm,  was wondering since I didnt soak the soil   could this be leaching ammonia into water..??if so   what is next step.??

Seems so, water changes are the next step mate I'm afraid, keep testing and doing 25% daily till its lowered.
