Ammonia?

It's says home essentials the original stain remover yellow and blue label. Ingredient say ammonia solution ??

Big letter on front say ammonia

I'd check the ingredients before using. Does it bubble when you shake it? Ammonia solution isn't very specific.

Do you have a clear bottle you could pour some into?

If in doubt, it's better to be safe than sorry and not use it.

is this ok to use

this is the only ammonia i can find. seems to be like gold dust. bubbles a little when i shake it. just dont no weather i can use it or not?? could some please help me and let me no

A few bubbles that disappear quickly are okay. I'm just concerned that the ingredients say ammonia solution, and doesn't say what's actually in this solution. Ideally you want one that says ammonia, then perhaps water and chelating agents. This one might be okay, but I'm not convinced at the moment. Are there any contact details for the manufacturer on there? You might have some luck if you contact them and ask what the exact ingredients are.

This is the one myself and many others used. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jeyes-Ltd-Kleenoff-Household-Ammonia/dp/B003MPLX4W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326155606&sr=8-1
It's more expensive than in the shops once you add on shipping, but at least you know you're getting the right stuff with this one.

Thanks for that link, I've tried finding it on Homebase and Boots site but with no luck. At least now I have a definite source I can go to.

One forum I use for non fish related stuff has people suggesting putting half a cup of urine in to start it off which just seems manky.

how accurated is the coverter???
i have 250 ltr tank including sump. it says 13.16 ml of ammonia???

I have been looking for Ammonia too but no luck..... In the end I tried Amazon and found some. It seems to be the right product as Amazon states other ppl that purchased it with API Master Test Kit. funny as I needed one of those too.... :)

Sounds about right. You can test the water after you put it in. I used the calculator as a guideline, though I still had to use a bit of trial and error to get it exactly to 4ppm. Don't forget you're calculating for the amount of water in the tank, not the full capacity - substrate, ornaments and anything else you have in your tank will reduce the amount of water you have.

I'd get one bottle to begin with. It's impossible to say how much you'll need as for reasons that escape us some cycles take a longer than others. You can always order more if it looks like you're gonna run out, but one bottle will probably be enough.

cheers sweet.
i ordered some kleen off from off ebay. got nothing in tank yet apart from gravel waiting for samarian drift wood to arrive.
