Ammonia Test Kit - I'm Colour Blind...

Right, today my new ammonia test kit came in the post. It was all fun and games taking the water and adding the drops of ammonia solution.. until.... It came to measuring the colour of the tube with the little peice of card, I am colour blind and can't tell at all what colours match to what, can someone help? here's some photo's of it in different lights and backgrounds

I really struggle with this too, i'd lean towards 0.

Cheers guys, it's a bit inaccurate considering it can seem to be different results in different lights. Do any of you use a different, easier to read test kit?

The API ammonia kit is notoriously difficult to differentiate between 0.25 and 0ppm. I'd go with 0ppm, personally.

Yes, I use the Salifert. 0ppm is clear, 0.25ppm is not.

Had never heard of that one before, but it's cheaper than the API which is always good. I do struggle with the colours being colour blind anyway; however the API tests take the biscuit Thanks for the tip though lock man

I already had a few API strips that are for nitrate, nitrite, hardness and pH, from my other tank leftover, so I just bought this API one for ammonia on it's own, You'll probably be able to pick some test tubes up on ebay

More accurate than API, too.

If anyone is going to buy replacement test tubes, make sure you go for generic test tubes (flat bottomed, with lids), then you can use a syringe to measure out the amount you need. I lost count of the number of the official API ones I broke, and I've not broken a single one since going with the stronger, generic ones. They're also much cheaper.

The nutrafin ammonia test is a good alternative as it remains transparent for a reading of 0 ppm. This may be of use for people with colour blindness.
 
I think that you have a reading between 0 and 0.25 ppm according to your pictures. The correct reading is ascertained by placing the vial right up against the white area on the card; I then read the card while it is in indirect sun light. Direct sun light almost always illuminates the water to a yellow colour from past experience so you want to avoid doing this.

this.  I consistently get ambiguous 0 vs 0.25ppm results.  If you see 0.5ppm on an API kit then you have ammonia, anything below this is a zero reading IMO

What I do is I put the bottle infront of the white portion of the card, and then use my other hand to close one eye. I find it more accurate to judge the color. I'm not too sure what to do about the colorblind part though...
