Is there a way that I can tell if my ammonia levels are too high without testing the water?

I'm in my college dorm and I have a 10 gallon tank here. I don't have access to a test kit or a near by pet shop so I can't test the water till this weekend.

Also, if I put some water in ta container this Friday and I keep it till Saturday to get it tested, will the readings become different?

Thanks!

no, there are only two ways to tell and thats 1) with a test kit and 2) dying fish, if you suspect ammonia in your water and cannot test it, do a water change, then another if you think necessary, and continue to do so every day, for the sake of your fishes health, then on saturday bottle some and take to the fish shop

If you suspect there's ammonia in the water, then do large water changes everyday as a precaution(with dechlorinated, temperature matched water and do it slowly) until you are able to test the water.
If you put some water in a container it shouldn't change as there will be almost nothing to eat the ammonia.

You can buy some digital alerts that hang in your tank... but if you are going to splash out that much money you might as well just buy the test kit anyway.
