Hi I'm in the middle of my cycle I had a nitrite spike two days ago but with 30% water changes I have got it from 0.8 to 0.3 my ammonia hasn't budged from 0.25 for about a week.

I use stress coat as a dechlorinator would this be giving me a reading of 0.25 or is my tank still cycling at the first stage.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the vote of confidence U will find they are fine........ I asked a question if your not going to be helpful then don't Bother posting ar5e hole

You've not given me a chance to be helpful, i just wanted to know if we were discussing the correct tank is all. :shifty:

Does it matter what tank I was on about? I was talking about a product

ooooooooooh ok. no, companies generally don't add ammonia to chlorinating products.

Did I ask about my plec? Where in that post does it say anything about a plec? It doesn't so why waste your time replying to be truthfully why do I. Bother posting no one is remotely helpfully unless the op is from someone who's been on the forum for years.

Check your ph. Low 6 may mean your cycle is stalled.

This morning perameters:

pH is 8.0

no2 is 0.3 mg/l

nh3 / nh4 is 0.25 ppm

the ammonia hasn't budged again it has been like this for well over a week now even when I had a few days of no nitrite after my last nitrite spike there was still a reading of 0.25

I read on someone else's post that prime transforms chlorine into ammonia

does stress coat do the same?

Nothing turns Chlorine into Ammonia, that's like turning dog #106### into gold.

certain products make ammonia and nitrite less toxic, but its safer to do water changes to dilute these elements until your filter can deal with them.

Prime will bind any ammonia that's in the water and any chloramine too into a form that is less toxic to fish but still usable by the filter. It shouldnt still be hanging around that long after though.

Ahh I see I thought it turned it into ammonia no problems then thanks very much

Prime can cause false positive ammonia readings, something to do with chlorine and ammonium... however it is unlikely this is the cause if you are still cycling. Ps just in case you miss it in the other thread you need some bogwood for your clown plec as its pretty much their staple diet :)
