I have added too much! Its on 8+! Do I leave it or do a water change

Don't know, maybe to a water change. A member called ''rdd'' can help you alot.

It would be fine to leave it but if it's off the chart high, it means you won't be able to tell when it starts to drop until it gets back on the chart. You could do a 25 to 30 percent water change and get it back down to around 5 or 6 ppm.

Thank you, will do that tonight. Could this be why my plants have died?

Why? Have they suddenly died after adding the ammonia?

Andy
Yep, they have gone vrey green and seens to have collapsed! They wheren't doing well anyway but something must have caused it to happen so fast? I have no luck with plants!

The links don't work djceri_q. What type plants did either of you have? A lot of places sell plants as aquatic plants when they really aren't. Any plant that has varigated leaves is most likely not a true aquatic plant and will not live for long completely submerged.

Ammonia should not kill plants. They actually use it too. That is why a planted tank sometimes processes the original 4 or 6 ppm of ammonia pretty fast but still takes a long tme to cycle.

Yeah tryed all of them they don't seem to work.

will download them on photo bucket tonight. I bought the plants from pet smart a couple of months ago

I'm thinking that this is just a coincidence and that there may ineed be no link between the ammonia levels and your plants dieing. I think they may be deficient, i.e. poor substrate or not dosing ferts / incorrect ferts / inadequate ferts etc.

Yes, maybe you are right. But you should see the pictures. They where in a bad state. I did use Seara Tablets.

Anyway, hell with the plants! I give up on them!

My up to date water reading Day 7

Ammonia 8ppm (due to adding too much ammonia but day 6 i did a 30% water change)
NitrIte 4ppm
NitrAte 5 ppm

Does this seem to be okay? I aint so sure
