Ammolock?

Does this product really work?

Becky
Ammo lock converts Ammonia to ammonium. If you still get ammonia readings with your test kit you add more ammo lock. It will tell you on the container how much to add to reduce the ammonia by a certain amount. It is most useful for a tank where youve had a sudden ammonia spike out of the blue in order to save your fish. It is not really a cycling product, more a last resort emergency life saver.

Ammo-Lock does work, it's sodium hydromethane sulfinate, a chemical found in better dechlorinators. Dechlorinator that says it removes chlorine & chloramine only will leave you with ammonia if you have chloramine in your water. If you have a Nessler test kit it will show ammonium as ammonia, giving you a false positive if you are using a product like Ammo-Lock. Salicylate based test kits will show only ammonia, not ammonium.

Nessler tests usually have only one reagent, Salicylate tests usually have two. Don't keep adding Ammo-Lock if you have a Nessler test kit, it will continue to show a false positive no matter how much you add.
