In an established tank I switched to live plants and added AMBULIAS ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO. the tallest Ambulias, closest to the light turned yellow at the top, then started losing leaves, maybe about a week ago when i added red ludwigias too.

I hadn't done water changes, so did some 10%ers and a 33% recently, but ambulia still seems unhappy. Is the biowheel TOO GOOD and starving the plants of nutrients, and/or the ludwigia are stealing too much o fthem? or is the 13 watt bulb just too weak for ambulia? or isthe black gravel too nutrient poor, compared to the aquarium soils more amenableto plant growth?

fish are healthy...

manual says the fluorescent lowers in output with time, altho the aquarium looks bright enough ...

Id say its the light, although you dont give the size of the tank, this could be a factor as well.

The light tube should be full spectrum somewhere between 3000-10000k for it to be of any use in growing plants, if it isnt you are wasting your time.

There are 2 different types of Ambulia (that im aware of) and both require a moderate amount of light in order to grow properly, somewhere between 1.5-2 watts per galllon, so for instance if the 13 watt tube is over a ten gallon tank this would not be enough light and the plant would suffer as a result and eventually it will probably die.

So i would guess that the tube is to weak.

You didn't mention if you were adding any ferts? My guess is that it's a nutrient deficiency as opposed to light as the plants is dying at the top where it would receive the most amount of light.

It is probably either an iron, nitrate or potassium deficiency.
