I finally got two Severums today :hyper: They're only 2" in length at the moment but already look very nice and are already showing off their personalities. :good:

This is the bold one who is less wary of the other fish.

And this is both of them together (poor photo quality though)

I am completely unsure of what variety of Severum (guessing they're Green Severums?) they are and any guesses as to what they are would be helpful.

Also, they need names (because I'll name them something stupid)... any ideas?

Thanks guys and I'll keep you updated,

Yup, both are green sevs. You'll have fun with them !

What tank are they in ? and with what tankmates ?

They're in a 240L which I've been told is big enough for 2 - just. They're with rainbowfish, congo tetras, bristlenose, a single kyathit danio, a single (very old) cardinal tetra and 2 goby sp. Oh.. and 'algae' shrimp which I hope they'll end up eating as there are too many (I wish shops said that 4 shrimp can become 240 shrimp in a not to long space of time..).

The cardinal, danio, rainbows and congo tetras shoal together :good:. I understand the risk of keeping a cardinal tetra with full grown Severums but I doubt the poor little cardinal (you can see him in the first photo) will be round much longer (and if he is he'll be moved into another tank and safe before he's eaten).

(Also, Hamfist, is that a Green Severum as your photo?)

Yes, a 240 litre will just about hold 2 sevs for life ..... if they get on. ONly time will tell if they can tolerate each other as they mature. As they will be growing up together your chances are reasonable though. Some adult male sevs simply will not tolerate any other sevs in their space. Others can be a lot more tolerant. Lets hope you get lucky !

Yes, that is a green sev in my avatar. He is a particularly stunning one though. I got lucky !

Lovely looking severums. Love my severum. The green one always has stripes one minute and then none or one stripe the next. Great to watch. Just picked up 2 red spotted severum this week and all are getting on fine so far. They will go into one tank, the golden into another and I'll get a friend for the green one and put them in their own tank too.

They seem to be good friends at the moment and are swimming round together - I doubt I'll be lucky and get a pair though, that's already happened twice with my Angels and Cutteri.

Your Green Sev is stunning, it will be amazing if mine get that colour.

This is a shot of the tank:

and some of the other inhabitants (which, as I have no camera skill, seems like very few)

Everything is getting on together fine, to my surprise. The Sevs are greedy little things, I watched their little bellies grow as I feed them tonight. They'll soon be 8" blocks of fish :hyper:.

Since the last post I've done a swap around, the larger of the two Severums was chasing the little one too much (I've seen their breeding tubes and reckon they're both males). I couldn't bare taking the little Severum back to my LFS and so he's been moved into my other 240ltr where he seems a lot happier and is more prominent at all times of the day.

I had to move some other fish out though, bearing in mind the eventual size of the Severum. I moved my pair of Cutteri and single Keyhole out and into what was the Sev tank. These three now seem a lot happier without my Ellioti (although the Ellioti pretty much ignores the Severum).

I'll probably have to do more swapping in the future (moving small fish to new homes) as with the Severums potential size the Silvertips could become a meal.

Oh well, all part of the fun of keeping cichlids and maybe soon I may be able to balance it out more if I can convince my mum that another tank would be a good idea .
