Does anybody know if sword plants are short day or long day plants?

They come from the tropics so long day.
But it depends on the lighting used. If you have metal halide lights then they will be fine with 8-10hours of light per day.
If you use fluorescent lights you can have them on for up to 16hours per day.

Start with 10-12 and if there isn't much algae growing you can increase it by an hour or two. If you start getting lots of algae growing everywhere, then decrease the photoperiod
