Amazing Survival Story Of My Cichlid Fry

I have a breeding pair of mouth brooder cichlids and about 2 month ago the female let out the fry when I was at school. I didn't get the fish because I wanted them to breed, just because I liked them. I keep them in a community tank and basicly I never managed to save the fry (which I normally do). Anyway Last weekend I was cleaning out my filter and I found 2 fry that were over and inch each!!! They had been living in my filter!!! (just so you know I had cleaned my filter previous to this occasion but the fry are soooo tiny I must have overlooked them) When the fry are first released they are about half a cm and these were over 1"!!!!

They are Mozambican Mouth Brooders. Many people say that they are aggressive but they are a fantastic addition in personality to my tank with no aggression what so ever. would you like a pic

I`ve heard a few stories like this Fry growing really well inside filters and living in buckets in the garage for weeks etc, I`m sure they are tougher than we all think.

I have tried taking pics of the survivors but they just won't stay still and every pic is blurry, o here are some pics of the parents.

These are fantastic fish!!!! There is a black version that you can get but when you take a propper look at these they grow on you like crazy!

What filter is it - i've got an image of them being sucked against the sponge......



I guess mouth brooders are used to cramp conditions. Perhaps the filter was as comfortable as their mothers mouth.....
