I cleared my tank out today and took out the large piece of bogwood, I usually put the wood on a dinner tray whilst cleaning, anyway once completed and put wood back I noticed there still water on the tray and I see three small things moving about, they were small, so I got out my magnifiying glass and they look like shrimps, a few weeks ago I said my shrimps were pregnant and a few people said its not possible to give birth in freshwater tanks? Can someone explain, I only have 5 fish in my tank so there not fish.

hi, they can give birth to them in freshwater, but i think that they need salt in the water to develop into proper shrimp.

cheers :good:

Yeah the eggs hatch in freshwater and are then carried out to salt water (might be brackish) in the wild. So although they can hatch they can't develop.

Damb! I should have put them in my hosptial tank which has brakish water!

There is a member on here who actually was trying to breed some amano shrimp. They were doing a great job but I think the tank accidently got knocked over.

My cherry shrimp have been breeding and have successfully got me some nippers. Hope my Amanos will get it on too! Intrigued by the salt water stuff tho...
