Amano Eggs

My Amano shrimps seem to be carrying eggs... if I leave them in my main tank, will they be ok and hatch fine?

I'm sure it's eggs, a dark cluttch under the shrimp itself.

They might hatch but if you have ANY fish in there they will just become a very light snack....... even other shrimp might get them....

They will not hatch, they need to be in a salty solution for them to hatch. thats why its very rare that people manage to breed them. takes ALOT of time and effort and even then theres no guarantee.

Yeah gotta agree with nick there they can only hatch in brachish water unfortunately...thats the disadvantage of amano over other shrimp like cherries which reproduce like mad

Its swings and roundabouts between cherries and amanos

amano's are bigger so wont get eaten by smaller community fish
amano's are better (per shrimp) at cleaning algae

Cherries are cheaper
Breed easily
Often a huge 'colony' of them can decimate an area of algae in a day or so


Overall, if your stocking allows it, all tanks are better with shrimp such as the above as they eat up leftover food, and gove the substrate/plants/decor a good cleaning!

Yep, Amano's need brackish water to breed. babay amano's are called Zoe's
