I have a 55 gallon. It has been cycled and running for almost two months. Right now I have:
2 small angels (body size of a quarter
3 sword tails (1 male and 2 females)
1 dwarf gourami
8 neons
6 albino corys
1 farowella
1 spotted raphael

Is this list ok in the tank at this time and can I add a trio of plattys to add color or would that be too much?

Everything seems ok. However, the biggest Angel will make the other unhappy coz they are cichlids and its how they are. Either add one or subtract one. When they get older they will end up feeding themselves by eating the neons as they become excellent stalkers.

How tall is your tank?

hmmm.

dont agree with any of that!

angels can be fine in pairs.

i even had a nearly full grown one cruisin the tank with one about 3 inches tall for a few months.

also since you have the angels in with the neons since there small theres less chance theyll see them as food.

i have 16 neons with my angels and there fine. even added a 6 inch tall angel to the tank a few weeks back and that hasnt toucjed em either.

everyone does have different experiences tho.

To answer your qustion, you are not overstocked and you can go ahead and add 3 platys

and yes how tall is your tank? seeing that you need at least 18'', 24'' being idea for angels.

you can beleve whatever you wont for the neons, many people have had good luck keeping

full grown angels with neon's and not have any problems and on the other hand many

people have loss alot of neons to there angels. i would think that if the food that your

are feeding them taste better you'll not have a problem.

Just a thing people do, keep Angels in 1, 3 or more. Because they are cichlids and its what usually happens.
Angels usually end up eating the neons because of the colour, size and well because they are fish.

I think you are fine to add more fish but I would mention that you should maybe look to stock the bottom part further if anything to get a good mixture and not overcrowd the one area.

As for angels being kept in 2's, I have never had a problem with this and don't kow of anyone who has to be honest. With angel eating neons, it is pretty documented that when the angels are small and live with neons they get used to them being around and as long as they are getting food from somewhere else (ie the keeper), they'll leave the neons to it in most cases.

The tank is 18" tall. I have been away from major fish keeping for years, except for the one red devil I've kept for the last five years. I did keep angels and neon together in the past with no problems. I did think long and hard before putting them together this time, but the tank is planted and has plenty of hiding spots. Thanks for the advice.

I think you would be fine with some platys, remember the ratio of 2-3 female per male.. if you have all female then they might be pregnant already.
