Hello folks. I have a red oscar about 3'', a royal green terror about 2.5'', 3 firemouths about 2.5'', 3 cory cats ( 1 albino, 2 juli) about 2.5'', 1 syno cat in a 55 gallon will be upgraded to a 90 gallon after my first pay check. I was wondering if I was overfeeding them. I feed three times a day. I feed them flakes and cichlid sticks before I leave for school at 6:10 in the morning, then I come home around 2:20 pm and feed the same, then at about 8:10 pm I feed shrimp and tilipia. All seem to love it and the oscar and green terror seem to always have big bellys. :) I would like your opinions on if I was over feeding and how I should feed, and if they are getting a good diet. Every weekend I replace the shrimp and tilpia with bloodworms and krill both frozen from hikari. I do waterchanges every other day and the p.h is 7.2 and ammonia is always at 0.

i personally have a 30g tank, and i feed only once a day, however i think that 3 times a day is a little much, because some days you don't even need to feed your fish in the first place. some people think that 2 times a day is also a little much. do you give big portions or just a few flakes?

It all depends on your portion sizes, and whether your filtration and water change schedule can keep up with the increased biological waste from a high feeding regime.
All your fish (apart from the corys) you are growing on, hoping to get them to a decent size. I think three times a day is fine. So long as there is no waste food left over that is uneaten, and so long as you keep an eye on your water stats.

Personally, I feed 2-3 x a day to the fish I am growing on. WIth full sized adult fish this can be cut down to 1 x a day, as you achieve nothing more than polluting your tank by feeding more often (unless conditioning to breed).

Thanks, yeah thats what I thought, but I just wanted an opinion. I do wcs every other day.

My adult fish get fed twice a day, my young rotkeils are now fed 4 times a day (down from 6), The skinny oscar I have had in the last week was fed 6 times a day, but he is only having a few bits at a time, but its now been cut down to 4, when he gets moved out of quaranteen he will be down to twice a day. (that will upset him  )

Variety is the best, feed lots of different things especially veg, peas etc :good:

I only feed my fish once per day, along with extra filtration and 50% w/c weekly.

I feed 3x daily to my fish (in signature), two small helpings morning and evening of cichlid pellets to the Oscar/Bichirs and two small helpings of prima/veggie crisps morning and evening to the Satanopercas/Metae. Every lunchtime the Satans/Metae have either bloodworm/brineshrimp/krill and every other day the Oscar/Bichirs get prawn or mussel at lunchtimes.

I do w/c every 4 days on both tanks of 50-60%. Too much, maybe, but they are happy and healthy and there isnt anything left over after a few minutes.

Crikey I feel well stingy now!  :look:
I feed my fish once a day in the evening, a couple of good pinches of flake and 3 of either algae or meat based wafers/pellets for the bottom feeders i.e corys, dwarf cichlids and plecs. I feed 1 frozen bloodworm block once a week and occasionally a sachet of daphnia.

You`ve made me question now whether or not I'm actually underfeeding my fish??

Probably not, all my fish are big and very greedy and need feeding twice a day to ensure everyone gets something to eat!

I feed my fish once a day , then if I feel like it , I feed them a tiny bit more before sleep time :zz
The important thing is to make sure all the fish manage to eat some food
