I might be setting up a 10-20 gallon tank at my girlfriend's office in the near future and I've been trying to find colorful and/or interesting fish for it. Anything from the everyday community fish to the more exotic and slightly expensive, not to mention aggressive Cichlids.

If there's a colorful or interesting (ie: active) fish that's not on this list that'll go in a 10-20, let me know. :) Too shy, large, ugly (unless they're so ugly they're cute that is) or difficult need not apply. The tank is currently open to any aggression level. Please note before anyone chimes in; whatever fish I go with will be compatible. I won't stick a Gracilis in with a bunch of Zebra Danios for instance or a Gourami with a Betta. :p At the moment the list is 51 long, excluding color morphs and growing.

[List updated: Jewel Cichlid and Serpae Tetra removed]

That is just a list of fish he wants to put into his 10 or 20 gallon. But a lot of those fish you couldn't get if you got a 10 gallon such as any cichlid on your list and Bristlenose Pleco. Some fish such as Jewel Cichlids and Serpae Tetras get too big for a 20 gallon.

It's a list in progress. :) Some of these fish appear on first glance or even listed as being able to live comfortablty in a 20g on some sites but as I get them pruned and sorted, the unacceptable ones will be dropped. I've already dropped some fish from it before posting this one actually. Ones that get barely too big or are too dull to be alone because of incompaitilbily with a fish that would compliment their colors otherwise for example.

Oh, and the Shellies could go in a 10g but that's about it. Most of the Cichlid choices would be for a 20g if I go that route.

Well I assume u go for 20g which I think anything under 20g r kind of too small for community :).

I would choose

5xblack neon tetra
a pair of german ram (god they r pretty)
1xzebra loaches
probably another 2-3 oto cat?

thats probably would looks great in an community tank as man its hard to know the sex of the pair of german ram :(.

Otos would be too delicate for a newly set up tank, especially one free of algae though I'm planning to get them for myself. :D I have a nice algae-laden piece of driftwood just waiting for a healthy group to come munch on.

Yea man I'm running out of algae on my 25g as well need algae tablet soon as the pleco is god messy poo layer :(. And it force me to do 5days per water change.

yeah, it was a joke. I've gotta work on this internet funny stuff.

Good luck with the tank!

Apparently the boss likes the idea alot so I may be able to expand this tank to something even bigger. I'm thinking going to a 55g to 60g if I can talk them into it. :hey:

It's best to get really hardy fish for a public display - that way even if water quality or other factors go south then the fish will still look good. If the tank is 20 gallons or so, I'd reccomend a tank with Gold Barbs and a few Otocinclus; although the Otos are pretty fragile, the Gold Barbs certianly aren't, and they're a beautiful fish. Extremely active and entertaining, and they turn the most brilliant yellow-oarnge when they're in mating condition...

I'll be there 2-3 days of the week. Every Tuesday and Thursday for certain so I'll be able to keep the tank clean and maintained. The fish stocking will depend on the location as well. If it's in the waiting room/foyer area then it will probably be hardier fish than if it was in the office area itself where it could be better monitored by the employees and less likely to get pounded on or people scaring the fish.
