Am I Losing Fish Again?

ok. so i gave up on my cycle at day 55 today and got 3x platties.one seemed very shy and scared from the beginning..since i put them in at 1pm this afternoon, that same platty has been non stop pooping..he's up near the surface and not swimming just sort of drifting.
I did a 50% waterchange and a sandvac and lowered th temp to 25 before i gradually introduced them.
is he not moving cos he's continually pooping...or is there a problem?? Why would they poop so much?
The other 2 seem very settled, and swimming about.

Post W/c stats were

Amm = 0
Ni = 0
PH = 8.0

Because there stressed ? Ull see in a day or two it will change when they get use to the tank.

i mean my readings were low but not 0 (as in 1.0)...i'm at day 55 and its still not fully clearing in 12 hrs.
lots told me to bite the bullet and get some fish.
he's hiding in the sucken ship at the moment.
i did drop in a few flakes and he ate some.
I will keep an eye on the readings.

Good luck - see how he is tomorrow. You shouldn't of fed on the first day and try and keep the lights off and the tank covered with a towel to keep it dark so the fish are less stressed. Did you acclimatise properly?

1.0 ammonia is a lot higher than 0. So which is it, 0 or 1?

If your tank still isn't cycled you're now doing a fish-in cycle which means lots of testing and waterchanges. It would've cycled without adding fish eventually.

He sounds a bit stressed. Ammonia in the water won't be helping. No need to feed the first day or so either, until it is more settled.

What Hayz means is that the cycle was not completed, in that she hadn't had Double Zeros for a week. A number of us, myself included, suggested that, instead of carrying on with a very long fishless, and then fully stocking, she add a small number of fish, as the chances are that there was enough bacteria to support them. I stand by that suggestion.

I don't think that Hayz is now fish-in cycling, she is showing Double Zeros, with the bioload she has. I did recommend that she test each day, to be sure.

I believe she is continuing to fishless-cycle her other two tanks, whilst she monitors this particular tank.

Hayz, I think your platy is just stressed, my platies have always done a lot of pooh, it seems to me to be a livebearer trait, as my mollies did, and I often see big strings of it from my Limia as well.

Give him a few days and see how it goes.

Fair point, I've been following her progress, so I know a fair bit of background. She did a 50% w/c prior to adding the fish. I infer that she had some remnants of her last ammonia dose prior to the change, but that the change, coupled with the bacteria she has, dealt with the remnants of the dose, and the bioload from the 3 platies, to leave her with double zeros. And you're right, that's not immediately obvious from what she's posted.

I would be interested to know a test result as of this morning, though.

if you had taken the trouble to read my logs...then you would see i have had 0's for AMMONIA for weeks now...which is clearing in 12 hrs.
My NITRITES have been up and down due to the dosing...they have been doing 0 as well, but bouncing a bit. After 55 days it was reading 0 for Ammonia(like i said for weeks now) and 1.0 for Nitrite. BEFORE the W/C

In my OP i stated POST W/C the readings were Amm 0....Nitrite 0

And Locky...My reading were DOUBLE 0's this morning.

I wasn't the only one to get confused by what you said, it wasn't very clear what your readings were because you said something different after posting "0 0".

Anyway, clearly it's sorted now.

then maybe a "do you mean Ammonia or Nitrite?" would have sufficed.
and it does seem you were the only one confused.
and i thought the whole point of putting links to our logs was for ppl to read???

I said they weren't reading 0 (as it was reading 1.0) then POST W/C it was double 0's.
Maybe i needed to add NITRITES.

Anyway, the fish is fine, so let's move on
