hey guys just installed a new under gravel filter in my tank do i still need a air stone in there with them or is there enough oxy coming from the filter it has 2 pipes ither side with air rushing up the pipes only one side is working as i have a new double pump coming from ebay thanks in advance

An air stone wouldn't hurt anything. Oxygen gets into the water at its surface, the rising bubbles will create waves which increase the waters surface area, resulting in more O2 in the water. You dont really need to do anything different, but if youd like go ahead. i have a floor air stone i run on a timer with the lights, so its not on all the time.

If you are getting good water circulation in the tank, not allowing a dead area with no flow near the surface, you will have all the oxygen in your water that will dissolve. More oxygen than that can be added by things like plants growing, but it is the reason you see bubbles on the plant leaves, the water just won't hold any more oxygen in solution so it forms a bubble on the leaf surface.

just thought id let you know that undergravel filters can be troublesome they can be the reason ur water conditions may not be optimal for the fish cause they collect alot of debris so cleaning and maintaining it is important but laborious

Undergravel filter systems may be old technology, but they still do the job. They don't often require maintenance but when they do it is quite a task.
