When i change my water i use two buckets and pour the old water down the sink. Then when i replace the water i get the buckets and put hot and cold in until its luke warm. Then i put dechlorinator and dump it straight into the tank . Am i doing this correctly? I also dont switch the heater off and so far it hasnt cracked so i think its probably submergeable. sp?

Thats what I do, I just syphon the water back in so it doesnt disturb anything in the tank.
Seems to work fine for me. I always turn my heater off tho, as when I have had one explode which wasnt cool!!

your system is exactly the same as mine.!! it has served me fine. the heater usually has a red line marked on it, this indicates how low the water can get before the heater is in danger.

I can't see a red line on mine. I dont even know if its working or not. Ill only be able to tell by my inaccurate thermometer. It has a little red light though so ill check on that. How far down would the line be? I do a large 50% water change every week because im heavily stocked.
