this is what i am doing with mine but i am trying to stock my tank straight of the bat so i will be dosing ammonia to increase the bacteria to a point where i can add all my fish

i know you didnt most dont to be honnest and when you tell the shops they say "you'r doing what " and then go on to explain it is a waste of time

as they will make more profit when selling you new fish

I', so glad I've found out about it though.
Fish were only lasting me a couple of week, now hopefully they will last a lot longer.

how long have you had the tank

if i was you i would be looking for a better local fish store or even make a day of going to a big fish store (depending on where you live) as they have so many to choose from and it can be a great experiance also some of the better places will advise you the correct way

i had a local and didnt like it when he said i could have 6 clown loach in a 70l tank

and then i found one 5 miles down the road and they would always bend over backwards to get me fish or give advice and not 1 single fish died from that shop

The only problem for me is transport, I can only get about places by bus or by walking. Also, a 14 year old doesn't get much money, so before it was VERY annoying having to buy new fish all the time.

I don't really like my lfs, but there are no others I can access...

where is it you live ? if it is somwhere like manchester its not too bad by bus

fish would be ok comming back on the bus

the other option would be to buy on-line but only when you are buying more than a few fish as you can have a fair few fish in 1 package


if you live somewhere like me then in cornwall it is difficult my nearest lfs is 3 miles away and with no direct bus route and then they are the best place to go

my lfs is about 15-20 miles away but i get better quality of fish and more of a choice

They should be kept in groups of 6 or more because in a smaller group, they may be shy and inactive and become stressed hence y i said go for the smaler ones like pygmy's

i am not too sure on lfs arround you tbh

the easiest way to tell if the shop is any good ask if you can have things like clown loach and alike in 70l tanks if they say yes then i would advise not to use them

however if they say i wouldnt advise this due to the size they can reach then it isnt too bad a store

Theres only 1 that I can access and its the most expensive, busiest, cramp place you've ever seen.

Yeah it is, + the people that are in it atm are rubbish...
