I went to my LFS yesterday to pick up some fish and plants for my cycled tank, and I went out on a binge and bought a dwarf pleco (I believe his exact species is Parotocinclus haroldoi). He's young (approximately 1" long), healthy-looking, and he seems to be eating well. He mostly sits in his driftwood cave and sleeps from what I've seen. They had a bunch of them in several tanks, and they all were really active so I figured they were healthy fish. I'm feeding him TetraVeggie algae wafers, and I've been overfeeding flake because my shrimp need some food, so I assume he gets some of that too. I just put a chunk of blanched zucchini in my tank for him too. I've been monitoring my water parameters, but I'll give them to you here. Temp is around 76 Fahrenheit, pH is around 6.5, GH and KH around 8 degrees, ammonia and nitrite 0, and nitrate probably around 15 now (I'm doing a WC tonight). It's a 20 gallon long aquarium, in case that matters. He's currently in with 10 ghost shrimp, a mystery snail (I have cuttlebone in the tank for him), a young male Bolivian ram, and 2 zebra danios (I'm going to rehome them when I can find somebody willing to take them, I got them to make sure my tank was cycled fully). It's heavily planted, but the plants haven't really grown in yet so it looks kinda skimpy. There's some terracotta pots and and driftwood also. Am I taking good care of him or should I change something?
