Aluminium in tank?

I’ve been thinking about building a bridge for planting (my aquarium posted in members aquarium pics) between the two stacks of pots in my 37 gal. A lot of thoughts have gone through my head and I might have come upon something.

Aluminum angle.

I work at a nondestructive testing/engineering company and our welding engineer says aluminum will not leech anything into the water and will obviously not rust.

Ever heard of such a thing? Think I’m nuts?

Well of course aluminum can't rust as that is only specific to iron. Aluminium can corrode in fact it is much easier to corrode than other metals. Aluminium corrodes due to air but the corrosion forms a barrier preventing further corrosion. See

So if I was you I would keep it out your aquarium otherwise if you have to add salt as part of a treatment it will dissolve!

As for leeching h may be right as the aluminium oxide layer would be like a protective coating
