Just wondered if any of you guys keep Altums?

If so, would you be able to post details of your set ups please? Googl provides me with care guides etc but I'd like to know what the people say who currently keep them.

Cheers :good:

I don't keep them, but i can tell you what i know. Altums are pretty rare in the Aquarium Trade. They get bigger than normal angels, so your tank needs to be a minnimum of 18 inches high. They prefer a ph of 7.0 or less. They need a high protien diet. They like higher temps of around 82 degree's m( 30 C). Thats about all i know.

Cheers mate. I'd got the basics down but I was just interested to find out how others keep them. Rather than how they should be kept, if that makes sense.

A lot of the info available is conflicting, so I was looking for owners etc.

:good:

soft acid water, deep tank, 30"+, very well filtered, plenty of swimming room with places to hide

& good luck finding real altums.... all Ive seen for sale recently have been scalare variants... advertised as altum

finarama is a good site for angel info

Thanks :good:

My potential 48"x15"x18" just might do the job then. Sorting out my other tanks at the moment and Altums are a fish I've pretty much always wanted, so figured I'd ask. I'd even consider 'normal' Angels for the tank.

Cheers for the link.

30" deep, not long adult altums hit 18" easily

and you are going to pay serious money if they are properly acclimatised, if not ... well just save yourself a lot of trouble & expense

last I saw were not for sale.. but if they were they were £60 at about 4-5cm

Normal Angels it may be then

I've never in my life had an adult Angel thats too tall for an 18" high tank. And I've kept and bred plenty

I bet Amano swears when his algae magnet falls off in that tank

Stunning fish, thanks for the links :good:

not seen adult altums then... last time i was in germany there was a tank of small/ maybe stunted altums & they were about 14-16" tall, I'd post a pic but cant be arsed with using 3rd party sites

Sorry mate I meant 'normal' Angels, not altums :D
