Chalinochromis is a very good choice. When you say dwarf alto are you referring to the "sumbu"?
If so yes this would be a good choice for a 20 gallon, provided your talking a 20 long (30" x 12" x 12")
A group of 6-8 Chalinochromis to start. This will get you a few pairs.
A group of 4-6 Sumbu for the same purpose.
Would be wise to get these small and raise them together if you could.
What species of Chalinchromis were you thinking of getting???
