Hi , just recently found out about these fish, was wondering if anyone here has ever kept them, what they were like, tank mates, tank size etc ?
Just looking for some general info / experience , , ,
Any correspondence greatly appreciated :good:

can't give you information based on experience but these are one of he fish i was looking into for the girlfriends tang tank, i take it you meen the 'sumbu shell' the shell dwelling compressiceps? if so females max at about 2" and males about 3". its wierd as most fish stay smaller in captivity than in the wild but the biggest found in the wild is 2" for a male and bigger in captivity, all altolamprologus compressiceps are 'opportunistic' shell dwellers but sumbu are purely shell dwellers and only lay eggs in shells, also they are meant to be far less aggressive than normal compressiceps. you wanting to get some? let me know if you find some! i wouldn't mind a dabble myself!

Been infromed the're not exported anymore but I suppose they will be lots of breeders out there somewhere, been told the're fairly timid but have been succssfully housed with Multis, the search begins..... :good:

Hi, I actually have one of these, there was a lone on the the LFS for a few months and I eventually brought it home with me. I have had it for 7/8 months now and it hasn't grown at all so I can assume it is fully grown at 2". It is quite a timid little fish and lived happily with my 6 Lamprologus Ornatipinnis for a few months with no agression but afer it had settled in and re-grown its shredded fins I moved it to my other tang tank and it now lives happily alongside 2 x Neolamprologus splendens, Eretmodus cyanostictus, Telmatochromis temporalis "shell" and Julidochromis transcriptus. It is managing to hold its own though and enthusiactically defends its shells from the Telmatochromis. They are a great little fish and if you can get hold of any I would highly recommend them.
