Can anyone reccomend an alternative to the Pair of Keyhole Cichlids in the below situation?

I havent purchased this stock list yet, and still playing with the final stocklist.

I've had a pair of keyholes in the past and wouldn't mind a change.

Would Rams or Apistogramma work? Maybe Cacatuoide or Agassizi? (Spelling?)

1 x RTB Shark
8 x Odessa Barb
1 x Bristle Nose
4 x YoYo Loach
2 x ???????

Many Thanks

Gaz

Wat size is the tank? If you planned on a keyhole in it, an apistogramma, or a ram would be fine in their. I'd get a pair or a harem of them thugh. :good:

To be honest I wouldnt put either keyholes or apistos' or rams or any other dwarf cichlid in with a RTBS as they are extremely aggressive when mature.

Oh, I didbn't read the stocking, but yeah I agree a red tailed shark would be way too much for a peacful cichlid, maoybe a larger one, but not a small dwarf one. :good:

I find the aggression of rtbs to be overstated, never had a problem with them myself. But caution isn't always a bad thing...

They can be chaos with fish that look similar to them...a few of my clown loaches died due solely to my rainbow shark stressing them out (wasn't even a rtbs)

Okay, thanks for replys.

How about i take the RTBS out of the equation.

Its 3 foot 120 Litre by the way.

So 8 x Odessas, 4 x YoYo Loach, 1 x BN Plec.

What can you suggest now?

Many Thanks

Gaz

With the RTBS out of the picture, then a trio of apisto's would be suitable, or the pair of keyholes, depending on your preference :)

Apistos would be fine with a Redtail (they can hold there own against much larger fish, believe me i have seen it!), Rams should be fine as again a male would hold his ground. I would say Keyholes are a hit and miss.

Possible Cichlids are: Rams, Apistos, Convicts, Angels, Parrots, Severums

What are the dimensions of the tank? (LxWxH)

The tank isn't even nearly big enough for Angels, Parrots or Severums!

The apistogramma agassizi's are a beautiful fish if you find a good supplier, i have a pair myself from the shop im working in and they have a bright metallic blue body, i have found my male is very aggressive when there was only one female.

There are loads of lovely Apisto species, the Hongsloi and Macmasteri are lovely when in good condition too!

There are the African Butterfly Cichlids, forget the first half of latin name but sure the last is something like 'thomasi'. Bit like rams but much gentler and far more tolerant of water conditions, ph especially.

Kribensis! Some nice unusual species of Kribs coming onto the market now! I love the albino ones, thy look funny! or the Taenatis (sp).

Blackstripe Dwarf Cichlid,, laetacara Candidi i think?! all nice..

Wow, loads of suggestions there!

Thanks alot.

I will check out some of those.

Wouldnt the Convict, Flag Cichlid and A Couple of the others harrass the YoYo Loaches?

I really like the Apistos up to now. How do you form trios? Does it matter if you get 3 males? Do you need 1 Male and 2 Female?

Cheers

Gaz

And to andy, the tank dimensions are 36" x 15" x 15"

Cheers
