I joined this forum on... Wednesday I think it was. I annoyed the entire Betta forum with my tank topics, then attacked the DIY and Hardware forums. I figured I'd better introduce myself properly somewhere that everyone can see me and meet the madness
My name is Amber, I'm 14 and live in Ontario. I just recently set up a 10 gallon tank with four Kuhliis (Meeker, Teeny, Spazz and Tucker) and a beautiful Blue Cambodian/Turquoise Pastel Veiltail Betta-boy by the name of Donahue. Being stupid I added a female Cambodian who soon got torn up by Donny (Poor little Virginia) and then three Silver-Tippeds, three Neons and three Black Neons. I got a second Betta, a blue, lavender and red MuttButt Veiltail Betta-boy who I named Mackenzie, and kept him in a gallon jar for a while. He never ate and rarely did anything, so he moved into my heated tank in a Guppy Breeder, where he still lives until I get enough money for a tank and light. One of my Silver's had an eye ripped out by another fish, and so the little boy was put to rest. Mack jumped out of the breeder and led an attack on Donny leaving him with a tattered right ventral and a single neatly torn tail-ray. His breeder's been covered now.
My tank was set up with the intention of being a 'river-bottom' tank. Grey river gravel covers the bottom, leading up to a hill in the back-left corner. The back right and a bit of the front-right are being overrun with a highly prolific grass my dad chose, as well as a quartet of broad-leafed plants. Three incredibly old shells (from Panama, Florida; washed, boiled, pretty much sanitized for my tank) are serving as hiding spots for my Kuhliis. Duckweed is covering a bit of the top, but mostly being sucked into the filter (Any solutions?) And a single, half-buried clay pot serves a 'cave' for small fish and the Kuhliis, my Betta-Boy would never fit there.
Now, the fish. Donahue, the Betta that started my newfound hobby, is a very social boy. He's calm and quiet and prefers to inspect Mack with a sort of 'holier-than-thou' attitude rather than flare and perhaps dishevel his pretty fins. he's got a nice wiggle-dance worked up and loves his Nutrafin Flakes and Bear Algae, which he picks of plants as a sort of 'salad'. Mackenzie on the other hand flares at any opportunity, and it very scared of me. Once he's settled in a forever-home I'll let him get used to me, until then he will be annoyed everytime I go to see him and Donny. My Kuhliis, Meeker, Teeny, Spazz and Tucker, were my original Brat Pack. Meeker is a very light Kuhlii, Teeny is the one I can rarely find as he hides beneath plants and shells, Spazz sometimes spazzes out and does a funny dance all over the aquarium before settling down beside the cave and Tucker is the dark boy that is usually found on my unplanted end just chilling with the Brat Pack. The Brat Pack are my fish, two Silver-Tippeds, two Black Neons and three Neons. Since I can't name them all they are simply the Brat Pack; picking on Donny and the Kuhliis, inspecting Mack and chasing Duckweed are their favourite hobbies. One Silver loves the Heater, and he's small, so I suppose I'll name him, and one Neon is very fat, probably a female, so she might get a name as well.
In the future I hope to have two more Bettas; a Pineapple boy named Pierce and a Black boy named Tainted, as well as a few females. Our LPS will actually buy any fry to sell as pet-Bettas, though I know that breeding takes a lot out of the fish, so I probably won't. I'll probably end up with four different 1 gallon tanks and the 10 gallon with 4 Betta-Grrls or assorted Tetras.
Wow, I really can ramble
