I joined your forum last week and have learned a lot.

I just recently set up a new to me 35 Gallon aqaurium.  About 8 years ago we sold our aquarium after having it for 10 years.  But now have the itch to get back in the hobby.  And my son is getting excited as well.  I catch him sitting staring into the tank for a long time, and there aren't even fish yet.  I think he is planning his wish list of fish.

I bought the tank and stand from an ad.  Apparently her last fish had died a few days before, the tank was taken down only the day before I picked it up.  The picture shows how dark everything is, I was really surprised how black with algae the tank was.  She said there was an underground filter in it at one time, but it broke, so there was a new filter over the side.  Needless to say the floor of the tank, under the older filter grate was disgusting.  I think that filter broke many years ago.  The rocks inside were black, and took a lot of scrubbing by my son, and where amazed by the beautiful colours of the rocks.  Worth the time to clean them.

Here is a picture of the ad I saw

We spent a long time cleaning and scrubbing everything really well.  I can't beleive how good everything looks.  Now we are just waiting time it is safe to add fish.  Took a trip to the fish store yesterday to plan our list.  Next weekend there is a fish auction in town, that we are excited about going to.  Thanks again for all the help I have learned from your forum.  Can't wait to actually watch fish swimming in our tank, rather than watching the plants gently sway.

Thanks for the reminder. I have read that and understand the importance of cycling and that is why we don't have any fish yet.

Great looking tank!!

Must feel great given all the hard work you put in to set it up!  What method are you using to cycle the tank?  I would highly recommend you follow TTA's article for fishless cycling with Ammonia.
