Hi guys, I really dont kno whats happened in my tank!

After having a thriving community im now left with 2 big silver dollars, 3 cory's, a BN plec and possibly one albino convict and one guppy somewhere!!

I had some beautiful albino convicts who got on well with everyone, RTBS again who were peaceful enough and loads of others, although I guessed the guppies and platys may get eaten over time.

Sounds like a bad mix I know but its a 5ft tank with lots of caves, hiding spots, foliage.

I have just done the tank readings, admittedly I dont change water often but I have 2 good filters running.

LR PH 7.6
HR PH 7.4
Ammonia 0.25
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5-10

that was with the little test tube kit, then I used a dip stick I had left, which the box said expired april 2009 and the readings were the same bar the nitrate which was brigh pink in the 150 region. It also measured GH and KH both at 180.

Any thoughts guys? I was about to stock up on corys this weekend but get the feeling something is savaging my tank!

Any symtoms to go on.

Immediate water change and increase aeration.
Take a sample of your tank water to the lfs to be tested. Ask them to write the readings down for you.

I would do a gravel vac. Remove ornaments to give the substrate a good hoovering.
You just keep up with maintance as bacteria can get out of hand in the background.
Also squeeze one of your filter sponges in old tank water if its really mucked up.
Give the filter impellors a clean so they work well.

Add some fresh filter floss to the filters aswell.

okey dokey!!

no symptons at all, it all seemed fine, im gutted because the convicts were proven breeders and were stunning, albino marbled convicts.

Will do the changes and clean after dinner now.

Thanks for the advice

How are the fish doing.
