this morning I went to turn on the light in my 55G cichlid tank, I noticed that they were all kinda of sluggish, never thot anything of it.... so tonite i come home and im really worried, all my fish are soooo slow and my blood parrot was laying on his side kinda, so i pulled out my testers and everything was good, amo:0 nitrite:0 and ph:7.6 I was really curious what this was, i told my dad and he said, go check the temp, which i acually forget to check, and it was 66 celcious!!! thats FREEEZING!!! i got all panicy and looked and my dang heater got unplugged, the filter was also like 1/4 plugged in, now i must investigate how it got unplugged and almost wiped out my tank..... STUPID CAT!!!

Stupid Cat, maybe it prefers its meals cold, just kiddin. Lucky everything is going to be ok. Goodluck!

Wouldn't 66 degrees Celsius be extremely hot?
Just a number mistake I suppose, lucky save  My moms cats would never see my room again (Or the light of day :p ) if they did anything like that :)

oops i mean degrees ferenhiet... but no it was definatly not hot
See? This is why you shouldn't laugh at others (maybe the pilot light went out :p).

:p

Glad to hear that everyone's okay.

We had some safety covers for outlets that protect kids from removing any plugs and getting shocked. It's a dome-like thing that screws on AFTER you plug in your stuff. You might want to look into one for your fish tank plugs just to be safe. ( then the cat will just chew through the cords)
Here's what I'm talking about -----> http://www.safety1st.com/product.asp?productID=170

Hope that helps

i did something like that once. when i finished doing a partial water change i forgot to plug the heater back in. good thing mum was around to notice it!

good to hear all your fishies are fine

yeah ive done that before ( forgotten to plug it back in...) and one time i did it to my friends tank....she was not impressed. :X it was only an 8g too so it didnt take long to cool down. :/

I broke 1 of my heaters on a water change and didn't notice at first, came back a few hours l;ater when it had dropped and had to go to rush and buy a new one. plenty of spares now.

Glad all your fish made it through, I suppose they thought it was the ice age again.

You can never tell when a thread is going to be important....

I read this thread with interest, always on the lookout for things to watch for in my fishies and thought ok - heater - check.
then I thought to check my plugs.
Most were fine but as I pushed on one...WHOOSH... my filter started up again

:hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

and I hadn't even noticed that the sound was missing. So that's why the fish werent swimming around actively'this morning like they usually do....
