All These Fish Compatible

Honestly, I only see room for three groups of fish for a 20 gallon. The dwarf rainbows get up to 2" to 2.5". So if you really want the dwarf rainbows... how about 6 dwarf rainbows, 5 guppies, and 3 cories? No real room for a good group of khuli loaches IMO; they like to be in big groups of 8+ ideally, though alot of people have 5-6 of them. So I guess you could do 5 khulis instead of the 3 cories suggested.
so maybe like 6 dwarf rainbows, 3 gupys, 6 cardinal tetras, 3 glofish and like a algea eater or something. instead of loaches.

i know im stubbern but this right here is the tank that i am hoping to get ok how about this 5 guppys, 6 Dwarf Neon rainbowfish, 6 cardinal tetras, 3 khuli loaches, and 3 zebra danios. is this overcrowded? there in order by the ones i want the most to the one i want the least. but i want them all alot. thanks for any help. FYI-i want the neon rainbows alot. lol

That is overstocked. You'll be glad in the end if you don't overstock, trust me. It is stressful to have an overstocked tank. You'll always feel behind and if you ignore it they'll all be sick.

It sounds like the rainbows are what you really want. Go for it. Get the rainbows. And get the loaches. Then you can either keep the trio of guppies, or have a larger school of rainbows. It would be a great tank. With three loaches and six rainbows you'll be almost fully stocked so you don't really have room for the cardinals. You have to keep in mind the full grown size of the fish because hopefully they will live a full life in your tank.
If it were my tank and I chose from the fish you've listed above, I'd go with 8 rainbows and 3 khulis. Or if you're attached to the guppies, you could get 6 rainbows, 3 khulis, and keep 3 guppies.

HTH. I think it would be great. I've actually thought of doing something similar myself.

good luck with the tank!

so maybe like 6 dwarf rainbows, 3 gupys, 6 cardinal tetras, 3 glofish and like a algea eater or something. instead of loaches.
If you'd like an algae eater make sure you don't get a pleco that gets very large. Keep an eye out for a rubbernose or rubberlip pleco (two names for the same thing). Another suggestion would be a couple of pitbull plecs. I stumbled across some and they are adorable. I have really enjoyed them. Most algae eaters get way too big for a tank that size but either of those would be fine.

Keep in mind that the fish you suggested above are going to get bigger than what you see in the store. I would encourage you get either the rainbows or the cardinals but not both. They both have similar colors.

ok i just got back form petmart and got a algea eater. its so cool it just sits there and sucks on the glass. and my fiends tank is finnaly almost ready. so he can take back his guppys. today i went out and bought a really pretty guppy. but the other males are picking on it. once the guppys are gone im gonna have 2 females and that new male. also my dad thinks i need 1 coolie loach to clean up after the tank. is it really that bad having 1? because as a kid my dads loaches would always fight. so im getting a coolie laoch now to. so would this work i just really like the cardinals and the rainbow's alot so how about this 3 guppys, 6 cardinal tetras, 6 dwarf rainbows, 1 catfish or something to clean up the tank, and my algea eater. it is probably overtsocked this is my dream tank though. but if it wont work i guess i can comprimise. do you just ever have that perfect tank in your mind? thats kinda what this is. lol well i gtg thanks for any help.

that was good advice you should take.

Hi,

Khuli loaches are very social and would never be seen if you just get the one. Do a google search on them and show your dad the profiles which state they are social. What algae eater did you end up getting?

Emma

I hope you didn't just get a common pleco, or a chinese algae eater. The CAE would be a disaster in your tank because they are aggressive when they get bigger. I've heard so many stories about this. The common plec gets to be a monstrous 12"-24" in length and would need a tank at least three to six times as big as the one you have. Don't worry if thats what you did, though. Its a common mistake, but you'll have to take it back.

I wouldn't do a single kuhli loach. Being social, it will almost certainly spend all of its time hiding. I have read posts from people who said they had a loach who hid so well that they thought it had died but they found it like two years later. Loaches tend to play with each other and some species will fight for the alpha position but I doubt they would do each other any damage. I don't keep kuhlies so I'm not sure if they do that or not.
