Hi guys.

Im thinking of getting this for my juwel trigon 190litre aquarium .

What are peoples experiences/opinions of this filter.
It says its up to 600litres. But i hear you should buy a bigger filter for your tank. Is this overkill for my 190l?

I've had a few of these.

I've found them underpowered for what they claim, I'd certainly step up from the 1400 for a tank that size. I have the 2000 model on a 100l and it wasn't too much.

Otherwise, not bad filters, good space in them. Found the pipework a little bit stiff to use but they may have changed that.

My only other comment is watch the power consumption if you're paying for the electricity. 35W 24/7 isn't a small outlay over time and it sometimes works out better to spend a few quid more on a more economical bit of kit, but if initial outlay is an issue then they're great.

I know nothing about this filter - I've never owned one or a Sun Sun, but Sun Sun gets some decent reviews and has an excellent price point.

Not sure how powerful you want the flow to be, as too much may blow your fish around, yet I gather more filtration is usually a good thing. Perhaps DrRob may know more as he has an APS 2000. Also, is your tank well planted? If so, you may find the 2000 is fine and you could use powerheads to avoid potential dead spots.

I have a few plants but not too many. Im going to be adding more.
I have a corner tank so i do need a bit of flow. Because there does seem to be a dead spot but that may be because the built in filter that comes with the juwel trigon 190 is rubbish

There was a thread a while back, that looked at flow rates and actual flow rates with real life fill a bucket tests. A couple of years old, so it's possible that they've changed things a bit, but I'd not heard of any great changes to those. They had a look at the 2000 model fairly early on. It'll depend on how much flow you actually want. If you're looking for 10 times flow for heavily planted then it's not enough, if you're looking for around 5 times then it's about right. The 1400 will do you, but expect about half the flow you expect (to be fair to them they generally quote them being empty, without having to pump from under the tank), so you'll get about 3 times turnover with a 1400 if you keep it nice and clean.

Word of warning, check the dimensions of the filter, they are huge.

Oh really i actually didnt think to look at the measurements of the filter . I was going to get the prefilter booster too. Ill scrap that i think.

I think i need decent flow as my aquarium is a corner tank and i am looking to add alot more plants so i can get corys

If water flow in the tank is what you're looking for, wouldn't it be better (and cheaper) to look at getting a powerhead instead of buying a new filter?
