My fish had all been great up until a few days ago.My two clowns have white spot and i treated them with Interpet Anti White Spot.It says to take the black carbon filter out beforte treatment. The water looks really stagnant now and my two clowns have gone bright red around the gills,They are really struggling to breathe. The rest of the fish are all at the top gasping at bubbles.....What can i do, please help!!

They sound in a bad way, need tank size in gallons, test result in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, do a immediate water change, plus did you use the full dose of the whitespot med as clown loaches are funny with meds.

Its a 60L tank, no test kits left. Used dosage as per the box....?

Do an immediate water change and if you have used full dose of the whitespot med, don't add anymore to the water change, the gills are bad, could be both poor water and the parasites, the clown loaches need a 90gal tank, if they get better, i would think of rehoming them as that tank is way to small for them, and this is why you are having problems.

They are only tiny at the moment but thanks for the advice. As im changing the water they are looking a bit better.Could be a long night.

Get water tested at the lfs, and tell them to write the readings down for you, and i would invest in some test kits of your own, good luck.

Should i re medicate after full water change? What is IFS by the way?

Don't do a full water change or you will shock the fish, only a 30% water change for now, look in the whitespot instructions to see if it says to half dose with clown loaches, lfs mean local fish store, or shop.

No major change, his gills are raw red and he is lying upside down.....have nearly done a 30% Water change, should i increase the temp to 28 or even higher..? Would a feed help him??

If he is laying upside down, it is not sounding too good. I would hold off increasing the temperature at the moment, as it can increase the stress. With white spot, it is helpful to increase the temp, but no more than 1 degree per day. I doubt your fish will even accept food at this point.

How long has your tank been set up for?

With loaches, you usually need to use half the medicine, because they are very sensitive to it.

Bless him, no a feed won't help him, cut down on the food, while the water quality is bad, if he's on his back, sadly he's dying he's not going to make it sorry, do another water change of 10% in an hour.

Hi Wilder, 30% water change completed. Temperateure still ok. Do we put any more medication in now? Instructions said to take carbon filter out. How long do we leave this out for?

Thank you so much for your help tonight.
Mrs Barry!

Throw carbon away it's no good now if it has dried up, only replace carbon back when the course of treatment has finished and the whitespot has gone, then i would be tempted to treat a week longer to make sure it has gone, replace the med back to the amount of water removed., good luck, have you increased aeration.

Thank you so much for your help, but this is only our second month doing this. How do we increase aeration?

Lfs has given you some bad advice about the clown laoches i'm afraid, research your fish this way you no if the fish is ideal with the fish you have and tank size, sometimes you can have filters that you can turn up and down for the flow, if you haven't got one of them filters, best to get an airstone with a pump to increase aeration, as meds take the 02 out of the water also so does high temps.
