I have a tank that I've had going for a long time now. It's extremely large and only has 4 Mollies and 2... sorry, I got them for a birthday and don't know what they're called. My friend said it started with a 'C' and the name was long and they basically look like a little sucker fish about 1 inch long.

Due to an accident involving my 4 year old nephew and my cat he was determined to catch apparently, he knocked into my tank tipping the entire thing over. All of the fish managed to stay in the 4-5 gallons or so that was still in the tank and I immediately took them out and put them in a bowl. From there I went and cleaned out all the junk that couldn't be salvaged. Put it all back together and refilled it. I have a small tank that I just started cycling that was meant for a Beta (it's only about 1.5 gallons) and so I put them in there, thinking they'd be okay for a day or two. That was about 20 minutes ago. Now the 2 sucker-like fish have on sticking the entire top half of it's body out of the water, the other one is dead on the bottom. One of the Mollies all died within 5-10 minutes after putting them in there.

They're all dead now, and except for the one little one that keeps sticking his head out. Is there anyway to save him and what in the world could cause them all to die so suddenly?

Note: When they were in the tank they swam around and then their tail end would slowly start to sink until they were vertical and then they'd quickly swim back into a horizontal position. It would happen for increasingly longer times until they finally completely sank and just laid there. From there sometimes they'd lie upside down and then dart around a few seconds and then lie down again. What's going on?!

Edit: Last fish just died. But I still don't know what happened.

That sounds pretty mysterious and really awful. I'm sorry for your loss. I can't help but think there was a serious imbalance in the small bowl. I would clean it out completely and sterilise it before using it again.

but my question to you really is ...

Why did you move them out of the 3 or 4 gallons of water left in the spilled tank into a 1.5 gallon tank? They would have been better off in their original tank. You could have conditioned some fresh water for them and added that slowly over a few hours. It would be a bit like doing a major water change.

I've noticed fish don't like being moved into a smaller tank much at all. I just moved 5 sick neons into a small hospital tank and they're just hanging around the bottom pretending they aren't there.

It also could have been shock that killed them.
