hi there im a bit of a newbie to keeping tropical fish i dont know if this is a problem or not but ive got jewel rekord 70 which ive had for about 5 months and i do water changes about every 2 weeks but i havent had any algae growth any where in my tank any ideas?

Firstly to the forum.


Lucky you. I have a constant battle with green hair algae. DO you have many plants in the tank. Do you know you phosphate and nitrate level? If these are both very low, this could be the reason for no algae.

hi cheers for the welcome dolphin ive only got plastic plants in my tank at the mo also i havent checked my water for a while because my tank seems to be running well now but i will check it now because im curious about what you said cheers for the reply

Hi I'm with dolphin on this one!! I had to return my algae eater last week because it became a big bully - this week the algae growth is much worse. I am hoping it will not overtake my pretty plants so fingers crossed. Welcome to the site it has been invaluable to me. cool_jool

Same situation here, cool jool! Bought a chinese algae eater n freaked the other tankmates out so it's been gone for 2 weeks (then I bought this hillstream loach hoping it'd eat away the algae) but the algae is worse than b4 when I havn't bought the chinese algae eater. Now am thinking of getting a real Siamese algae eater or otto...
