Hi all...

I have had my fish tank for 8 weeks now with no problems,
However I have now noticed that algae is growing on the inside the tank on the glass. Whats the best way to clean it and avoid it. ( can it be avoided? ).

I have only 4 tiger barbs and 2 small oscars in the tank and heaps of live plants.
I try and do weekly water changes but at times it has been at two week intervals.

Thankyou.

If you have a lot of healthy live plants, then algae shouldn't be a problem. But to get rid of it, then you can just use your hand to wipe down the inside of glass and then do a water change after. If you don't wanna use your hand then you can just use a clean (never used before for cleaning) sponge.

Most LFS have an "algae" scrapper you can purchase. They aren't very expensive and are meant to clean the sides safely! Never used one so Im not sure if they work. But, I have seen them at most pet places. It has a long handle attached so you don't get your whole arm wet. Hope this helps.

Or you could purchase an algae magnet - the only thing to watch with these and scapers is that you don't scratch the glass.
