Algae Eaters for Small Tanks

If you go for a group of shrimp, a snail may work to help with the sides, just make sure not to get one that is not asexual and won't eat plants.

Ghost shrimp aren't really algae eaters guys - just general scavengers.

Get amano shrimp or cherry shrimp. If you get otocinclus, get at least three.

If you have hard water, I'd suggest you get some Nerite snails. Eat algae great, and don't breed in tanks (though they do leave these annoying unviable eggs everywhere). If the PH is below 6.5 they will have their shells corrode away however.

Hmmm...this thread has caught my interest....

I've was wondering if there was anything that might help get rid of waste in my tank.

But my tank is fairly small, a 60L, and like you say, plecs get too big.

I'm liking the sound of these Amano shrimp - I might find out more, but to start with, a few questions for those already in the know.....

Do they stay kind of small?
Can they be kept singly, or do you need groups?
Do they affect water conditions (like using up extra oxygen, or producing extra waste)?
I have a 60L, with 7 Neons, and 3 Guppies - are they safe in my tank, with my fish?
Do you need to supplement them with any special food, or is there anything specialised involved in keeping them, and looking after them?

Thanks :good:
