Algae Eaters For Bettas?

I took a leaf from your book and bought a Chinese algae eater also today! All is well so far, he has kind of got used to the idea now, and just turns his nose up at him.

:good:

You should really read up on CAE's. They do not have a good reputation and apparently, as they get older and bigger (which it will) they get more aggressive and start ignoring algae. They're also known to attack slow moving fish so yeah.. might want to think about taking it back for something else. Just do a search for them here or start a topic about them in the general fish chat section.. you'll get info from people who have experienced them.

they also get pretty massive! i was sold one as a Siamese flying fox. and he was fine when he was little, but he got to about 5 inches and had to go in with the Oscars in the end as he was terrorizing the community tank (i actually managed to get some real Siamese flying foxes after that and they were great!)

So far, the gold algae eaters are still alive. *knock on wood*

I almost got Chinease Algaqe Eaters until my bf told me how aggressive they are, and how big they get. Yeah, not what I'm looking for. LOL The gold gold ones are working great though. :) I really like them. :) I highly recommend them.

I got a plakat on Saturday and put a snail in with him. That was dumb. It was dead by Sunday. Bad, bad betta! I'm not putting ANYTHING in with that fish, that's for sure!

*Bethie*

my bettta loves guppy fry, but
hes left 2 alive(well theyve escaped from him many times) and now there much to large, and now he just lives peacefully with them, and theres 1 pond snail that i see, not sure if there are any others, if there were , my guess is they got eaten.

I think I'm gonna try putting in some otos with my bettas if the fish place has them tomorrow!
My 10gal looks so skeezy b/c of the hair algae and I just know some otos would enjoy munching on it, but dernit if I'm scared to put them in there b/c I have absolutely NO idea what the bettas are going to do!
