I have an algae eater that was very dark brown, almost black when I got it a couple of months ago. Over the last two weeks it is changing color to light brown, almost white mostly in the front of its body. Is this normal?
The other fish seem to be fine.
Thanks

It has lots of hiding places. I 'googled' 'loachs' and someone said loachs get less inclined to eat algae if they have other food. I feed all the fish blood worms and regular food. The color of all the fish has really gotten more vibrant since I got them from the pet store. The loach can be quite aggressive towards the corys sometimes but they manage to stay clear of it.
Another question please: I have two 'white skirt Tetras that were dyed pink. They were the same size when I got them but now after two months one of them is twice the size as the other. Is the larger one a female?
Thanks

If it was black, I would lean toward it being a pleco of some type. It would help if you could post a photo. As for the color change, fish in the fish stores won't have their true colors. They are very stressed by the overcrowding in the tank and lack of cover/hiding places. They will begin to show their true colors once they are in a normal tank and become comfortable with their surroundings.

The only loach I can think of that is considered aggressive as they get older and are harmful to corys are chinese algae eaters which are sometimes called sucking loaches. And as you mentioned, they rarely eat algae unless it is all there is to eat. They are definitely not good fish for a community tank, especially if you have slow moving, flat bodied fish.

Unfortunately, dyed tetras don't usually last long. The dying process isn't good for them so their life span is severly reduced. The fact that one has not grown may mean that it is not doing well.

This the fish that's changing color. It used to be almost black

That would appear to be a common pleco. Nothing wrong with the colr change I don't think but they get very big, up to 2' long. You will eventually need a very large tank for him.
