Just a note to advise how I got rid of all the algae in the tank on:

Substrate
Plants
Glass sides

After weeks of trying liquid treatments,blackouts.......and going mad I did the following:

Bought a Koralia 2 Powerhead-put it in top lhs pointing down.
Cut down the lighting from 11 hours to 8.....with a 2 hour gap in between
Cut down feeding to a pinch per day
Pointed my filter pump upwards towards the water surface

After a few days it was amazing.....most of the algae was going, and two weeks later there is no sign anywhere !!

I have a Juwell 180 Vision with approx 12 small fish (mixed) and 8 plants...again mixed.

It may not work for everybody but its worth a go if you are having problems.

good stuff ozzy, the thing that prob really curtailed the algae was the reduction in food (dissolved nutrients for the algae) and the gap in the lighting period (this severly disrupts their growth cycles). Good job :good:

Hi Ozzy and Ox,

Ox, I like both of those things too (lighter feeding and gap in lighting periods), but I also think there is really something to good water movement thoughout the tank (supplementing the filter flow with the Koralia) and also increased water changes when you have an algae problem. Water changes will help reduce the overall counts of algae spores and sufficient water movement will eliminate dead pockets where small (but unmeasureable by our tests) amounts of ammonia trigger spores to change into growing algae.

Ozzy, how did you get along with the Koralia? Did it take some different trials to figure out the best positioning... and how about any noise issues etc. If you hear it, what do you hear?

The korala is very quiet................I put it top lhs rear pointing down...first time best guess !

The algae was hair algae on the plants together with blue green on the substrate

Pleased this info may help others

Cheers
