One of my corys has recently developed pop-eye and a slightly swollen belly. His activity level has decreased over the past week and has had its tail nipped a few times by an unknown subject. All fish have been together for many months and show no signs of stress.

- Tank size: 16 gallon (US)
- pH: 7.2
- ammonia: 0
- nitrite: 0
- nitrate: 10-20
- tank temp: 74.7°F

- Volume and Frequency of water changes: 20% weekly

- Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: Seachem Prime to condition water, AquaClear 200 power filter with sponge and BioMax

- Tank inhabitants: 1 male betta, 7 rasboras & 2 additional albino corys

- Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): no recent changes

- Exposure to chemicals: none

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes popeye and dropsy are close related due to the build up of fluid, are the scales sticking out.
If you can isolate the fish you will need an antibitoc like tetracycline, but if you add it to the tank most of the bacteria colony in your tank will be wiped out.

Tetracycline

For infections of fin and tail rot, frayed fins, popeye, inflamed gills, mouth and body open sores/ulcers, livebearer disease, dropsy, Columnaris, and secondary infections such as fungal. Specific for livebearers and goldfish. Aerate the aquarium well when using. Useful for the control of some common bacterial diseases, including Aeromonias and Pseudomonas Genera and the Mysobacterial group.

The scales are not sticking out. It almost looks like it just had a big dinner, although I don't think(?) it's eating as much as the others.

I have a 7 gallon that isn't being used at the moment and I'm guessing it would probably make a good hospital tank. I've been fortunate and haven't had sick fish so the hospital tank will be a new experience.

Yes it a build up of fluid in the tummy so it's dropsy as you have popeye too, issolate the fish and get the med fast, as they can soon die, also epson salts help to draw the fluid out.

Thank you for the comments Wilder.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to puchase any meds until tomorrow. Do you know if it is OK to move the fish into the new tank today if I use media from an established tank?

Yes that fine, match temp, and add some salt to the tank for now, one tablespoon to 5gal, it will help draw the fluids out, if no aquarium salt add household salt or table salt, good luck.
Once you add the med increase aeration as it will reduce 02 in the water.
