Last water change was on friday.

A week ago i noticed my albino cory cat had been hanging around the same place for days, and not moving much, then one day he hadnt moved for ages, i thought he was dead so i went to fish him out, he came alive.

He is turning red though more and more, iv been treating with Pimafix for the past 4 days or so (before this i was using king british fin rot and fungus control for about 3-4 days). Iv just noticed today his skin is going funny, looks like its pealing, and as i said earlier hes turning more red.

Any ideas?

Heres a few pics, not the best but you can see he clearly is red compared to my other albino:

You need to use a strong anti internal bacterial med, like "anti internal bacteria" by Interpet as the cory is suffering from septicemia which is an internal bacterial infection in fish :) .

What are his chances do you know? And how could he have caught this?

Is this the stuff:

Is Pimafix not strong enough? I was thinking of getting Melafix too, but if you recommend interpet anti internal i will get that.

Thanks

His chances are not great since the septicemia is so far progressed, but he is still capable of making a full recovery, i've had some fish in the past which had some really aweful septicemia but after a couple of days of treatment they made a dramatic full recovery, so i would say it is still worth trying to treat him  .

Thanks for the fast reply, you may want to read my edit because you replied so fast whilst i was editing.

Pimafix isn't that strong at treating internal bacterial infections, and melafix is even weaker, the Interpet med in the pic is much better in my experience for treating internal bacterial infections :) .

Okay.

I will get that interpet stuff tomorow hopefully.

Can you recommend something for external bacteria, as i have had more deaths than i like over the past month. And whatever you recommend, will i be able to treat the tank with it at the same time as the anti internal bacteria?

Last question, can my other fish catch this infection/disease?

Thanks for your replies.

They say the internal bacteria meds by interpet treats septicemia but once it advanced it very hard to cure.
Issolate the fish for treatment as the bacteria from the fish can enter the tank and infect other fish.

I bought some of the anti internal bacteria by Interpet, to try and save this cory, and also as a precaution incase any of my other fish have it in the early stages - none of them are showing any signs of it.

He has got worse overnight, his skin is pealing more and he is a little bit more red.

Iv isolated him in what i could, a food container. I filled it 3/4 full with tank water and put a coconut cave in there so he can hide whenever he feels neccessary. I treated with the correct amount of dosage of the tub (i filled it to 7.8 litres). Just stuck a thermometer on so i can keep an eye on the temperature.

Will this be okay?

I know this isnt ideal, but my room is small and stays pretty warm, so IMO the heater isnt neccessary, and i dont think the filter is that neccessary as its one single cory and they dont produce much poop i believe.

Any other advice or tips would be greatful.

If the tub isn't filtered ammonia will start to build up, best to do daily water changes on the tub (remembering to top up meds lost by the water changes) to be on the safe side  .

EDIT: i would just like to add that it would be good if you use some StressCoat dechlorinator, this stuff helps create an artificial protective slime coat on fish and aids the healing process, which would be good on your cory since his skin is weak right now.

Forgot to ask, do i treat the tank and tub for 7 days and then stop and do a water change?

Well the water out of my tank has 0 ammonia in so i suspect itd take a while before that built up in the tub. But il keep an eye on that, and daily water changes are easy as its right on top of my tank and i can put the water out of the tub into the tank, and get some water out of the tank and put it in there.

And il get some of that stress coat tomorow if i can, will it be okay to add some to the tank and tub whilst treating both with the anti bacterial stuff? Or will that be too much meds?

Finally, the stress coat dechlorinator, is that just a tap water conditioner that also in addition creates the protective slime coat? Therefore the use of Tetra Aquasafe (which i add to the water at changes) will become pointless and should be saved for the future?

Thank you so much, youre replies are valued.

Its fine to use the StressCoat dehlorinator stuff with other meds, its just a dechlorinator but it has many benefets, its good for treating sick or injured fish with as it helps protect their skin, it has stuff like aloe vera(sp?) in it which has anti-bacterial qualities.
If you use the StressCoat stuff you don't need to dechlorinate your tank water with anything more, after a week of treating the cory with the Interpet med, if the cory still isn't quite better yet, do a large water change and start another course of treatment  .

just a quick note to add, you might be better off doing water changes in your treatment tank with new water, as if you swap the tank and quarantine tank water over to help control ammonia, you may introduce infection into your main tank. (remember, the point of your hospital tank is to isolate your sick fish from your healthy fish).
all the best, merry.

Yeah good point, noted.

I think hes going to die tonight. He was upside down and on his side earlier, i thought he was dead. But iv just checked now and hes upright hiding behind the coconut.

Hopefully i can save this one. Iv had too many deaths this past month, and since starting iv had bad luck with Albino Cory Cats in particular.

:(

Thank you again!
