Think they are about a quid from your FLS, ive got loads lying around haha

You don't need one at all (unless it is tunning your filtration). The only oxygenation is from surface movement which can be provided by making th filter disturb the surface of the water.

my filter output breaks the water surface and also the fish are swimming all over and not at the surface so didnt see a problem but was wondering if i needed one

If your filter is making the surface of the water move you don't need one at all. Many people use them for decorative purposes only.
