My pump is circulating the water through my filters. The nozzle is facing downwards into the aquarium. There is air coming out of it but it is not producing any bubbles. Is this right?

And should the nozzle be facing upwards towards the surface of the water so it is making ripples in the water or is it ok to point it downwards? Or does it not matter?

Thanks

Getting surface water movement is the main way of increasing oxygen transfer from the air to the water. Its much more effective even than using air pumps and airstones, contrary to what many beginners think.

Without knowing more about your situation, I'd hazard a guess that directing your water flow to increase ripples would be a good thing.

I'm sorry, but I have to say I am very confused here - lol

Your 'pump' is circulating the water through your filters - I presume you mean a water pump or powerhead then?

There is air coming out of it but it is not producing any bubbles.

Erm... if it is above the surface of the water and air is coming out then no there won't be any bubbles, as the air will just go into the, um, air...
If it's below the surface of the water, and there is air coming out, then it must produce bubbles, otherwise it means there is no air coming out - lol

I'm sorry, I'm obviously confused as I just cannot figure out what you are asking, or what you mean. Please clarify where you are talking about your filter pump, and where you are talking about your air pump, and also where the air is coming out of (or not as the case may be)

How do I add a picture that I have taken, so I can show you?

The easiest way is to use photobucket, (either if you have an account, or you can signup free), or else I think you can use imageshack without needing to signup to anything (I don't know, I don't use it).

Then you place the url to the image into your message within the image tags, (by clicking the picture button on the toolbar). It will look something like this:

Best way to put a picture is to open a free account at photobucket or other picture hosting sight then upload your picture to there then use the IMG code that will be at the bottom of the picture by copy then paste it in your reply box hope this helps

Beet me to it schmill

I have turned the nozzle upwards so it is now making ripples in the water. Is this better? Before, it was pointing downwards and it was blowing air into the tank but know bubbles. I could feel the air with my finger. Does it matter which way it is pointing?

Great! You can just play with it. Its a trade-off between getting some good ripple on the surface to supply oxygen to the fish versus possibly having too much splash noise and bothering a bedroom occupant or something like that! Also you would not want splash on your lighting equipment if it is unprotected of course.

Great thanks. Its not making too much of a splash. It actully makes a great effect to the aquarium. The lighting isn't protected but the water isn't getting to it so it should be ok, but I will keep an eye on it.

Thanks

Can see the picture now I'm at home, looks like it is better that way causing some surface agitation.
No idea what you mean about air, (or air pump) though, as that seems to just be a filter outlet, and no air involved?

Similar looking to my set up Check with whom ever makes that pump you can get straight and angled attachments that will allow you to bring the nozzle end to the surface so you can play with the height of the nozzle with the level of water helped me to get a good disturbance on the water without causing to much noise :good:
