The cave in my aquarium has an air pocket inside at the top, with something floating in the pocket which looks like it may be eggs. Wondering if one of my Honey Gourami may have spawned.

However, my main question is whether such air pockets pose any issues? I know those with sand substrates can be concerned by air pockets in the substrate, as gases from decomposing foods can store up and then release toxins into the tank when something disturbs them. Do I need to get rid of this from the cave or safe to leave?

Thanks!

Definitely not Gourami's. Gourami's make bubble nests when they spawn, and the eggs are placed in that nest. (Same as Betta fish)

Do you have any snails in your tank?

It’s definitely not an anaerobic pocket. I wouldn’t be to worried.

Did you try putting it in upset down and then turning it over under water. That releases the air.

Thanks. Yes, I have two nerite snails in there but they`ve only been in since yesterday. Not sure how long the pocket has been there. I only noticed today but then I'm not sure when the last time I looked up into the cave.

Thanks for the response!

Ohh, if it’s up in the cave, it’s just a normal air bubble. You can just turn the cave upside down in the water and it will go away. :)
