First post on here guys. Hopefully many questions to come as I start my first real tank.

I have had a 10g tank for about 3 years and have had a reasonable amount of success with different little fish.
I am moving to a new apartment with (mostly) tiles in a week or 2, and I am looking to buy myself a 200l fresh water tank and really get in to the hobby.

The only problem is, the only real ideal spot for a bigger tank is right underneath where the air conditioning unit is on the wall. The air conditioner will get a lot of use as it can get quite hot on the Gold Coast in summer.

Do you think this will pose a threat to the keeping the temp warm? or will the heater be able to monitor and keep the water at the desired temps? anyone had a similar problem?

Anywho, seems like a great forum with lots of knowledge and experts, and i am looking forward to seeking more advise from all.

Cheers

Don't air conditioner units get really hot? That, coupled with the hot temps anyway might mean it'll be keeping it cool that is the problem.

No i think that is the part that is outside that sucks in the air that gets hot. This is located right under where the cool air comes out.

On the face of it.. sounds like you'll be spending energy on two devices working a little against each other, but you'll just have to try it to know. It would be good to look hard for a better spot, sometimes they aren't apparent at first or perhaps the tank area could somehow be "hooded" from the direct flow of cold air. If the tank heater is a little underpowered you might need to prepare yourself for the expense of a larger wattage heater.
