Air bubbles from filter

I have just set up a Rena XP3 filter on my 90-gallon tank and it seems to be working fine with one exception. Every few minutes I can hear air going through the filter and then seconds later the air bar spits out millions of micro fine tiny bubbles. I find the bubbles make the water look cloudy and ugly and since I have an air stone they are not needed for aeration purposes. All the fittings are secured tightly and I cannot detect any water leaking out or air leaking in to the system from anywhere. Any ideas on how to get rid of them?

Thanks,
Plan.

sounds like an air lock to me
try removing it and then repositioning it. this works for me sometimes
also how long it been running mine throws out air when it needs cleaning

Sounds like you did not get all the air out of the filter when you set it up, and it is coughing out the trapped air from time to time. Try rocking the filter about while it is running to get any trapped air into the pump chamber.

You do not need an airstone.

Hi again and thanks for the post,

I’ve tried tilting it to help air out of the system. I’ve tried turning it of for different periods of time. I’ve changed the distance from it and the water level in the tank. I’ve emptied and completely re primed it. And I’ve checked and rechecked every connection, seal and hose 3 times over. The air bar is on the far side of the tank from the inlet so I don’t think it’s the problem. I just set it up so the filter media is not clogged. When there are enough fine bubbles to make the water appear cloudy is it harmful to fish? I’m totally out of ideas on this so if any of you got any more thoughts I’m all ears.

Thanks,
Plan.

Curious. To be clouding the water, the bubbles must be very small, and there must be A LOT of them! I use Eheim filters so am not familiar with your machine. I've just read up a bit about it and it even boasts "Guaranteed self-priming system (unique '' anti-airlock '' system)".

When all is said and done however, assuming the bubbles are coming from the filter itself, (and not being produced by a spray bar for example), it means air is getting into it somehow. You are sure they are coming from the filter itself aren't you? If you have the spray bar or whatever return you have under the water, the bubbles continue?
