My fishless cycle is annoying me, my ammonias now at .25 and it hasnt dropped to 0 yet! FIVE WEEKS! IM GOING CRAZY! even if my ammonia drops tommorow i have to wait for it to drop to 0 again in 12 hours, then wait for the nitrite to drop! I wanted to get my fish on my birthday aswell

That seems like a long time to be cycling What has been happening with the Nitrite and Nitrate?

Still even if it takes another week or two it is better then buying a load of fish and then having them all die on you.

That sounds like a very long time, maybe it is actually zero but your test is could be old or just inaccurate?

What test kit are you using? my drp kit is in 1ppm only but is a defo yellow or green between 0 and 1.

My last one took nearly 8 weeks, I was going to enter it in the next Tour De France

Im using API test kit, im gonna get some mature filter media from my other tank in there tommorow so hopefully thatll speed it up!

just re-read something and I wonder if its the reason your cycle is slowing - whats your ph level?? Apparently the closer to 6 the slower to bacteria works - mins slowed right down and I've just etsed ph and its 6.6 so I'm going to do a 25% water to chage to alter the ph - might be an option for you too

some people might think im crazy, but whenever i set up my tanks i never do a fishless cycle.. i just put water in and condition it, and if the water looks clear i get fish the next day. no testing. and ive had my fish for awhileeee over a year now

i guess im lucky

I was considering onse the ammonia had dropped to 0 id do a fishy cycle but ive come this far so im gonna finish it!
