i have a friend and ive always said he was smart just not very bright i helped him clean his dads nasty tank and now his dad bought him a 10 gal for his room

ok heres the story he just got a 10 gal tank yeserday filled it with water and now he has a pleco in it    he is going out tonight to get from what he says about 7-9 more fish and he wants his tank to look "full" i cant stop him his dad has a 55 gal in the basment (that he never even looks at that is until i cleaned it :/ i told him to give it 2 weeks to cycle with one hardy fish then get about 4-5 small fish but there is no reasoning with him and his all knowing dad

please someone calm me down before he wakes up 2morrow with no tank and i mysteriously gain a 10 gal

:rip: :byebye: joshs fish youll have a short life (i bet)

Is there any space in the 55g? If so is there any way you could encourage the boy to learn a little more about fish and help his dad with the 55g? Then he could put his pleco in there?

If not I suggest a raid of some kind (not that I am inciting breaking and entering, of course that's illegal!)

Remember we can't help all fish so we should just be extra nice to our own. Oh, maybe you could type up a care sheet and post about 100 of them through their letterbox!!

Sorry, my only suggestion involves really dark clothes, a bucket, and moving around really quietly in the middle of the night. Remember, fish go missing all the time or he could be hiding really really well :fun:

If he is being this stubborn, it sounds like he is gonna have to learn the hard way, unfortunately :-( :rip:

We'll there is this LPS that i hang out/sorta work at , im good friends with the owner and in exchange for helping him out he gives me free stuff, well anyway we had a new customer come in trying to make a claim on the 7 day live fish guarntee the store has, he walked in with a bag containing; 3 medium angels, 2 plecs, 5 albino corys, 8 glo lite tetras. These were all of the fish the guy had bought 3 days ago, all of them!! So i asked the guy some simple questions like what his tank size was, did he have a heater, then we went to the more complex questions like did u use dechlorinator, did you cycle, did you clean the tank before you set it up. His answers, what the hell is dechlorinator, cycle? well i let it run for 3 days before adding fish, yes i cleaned the tank useing bleach then i wiped it out. Turns out the guy lied to the owner to get the fish in the first place. I tried to tell him what to do, i even offered him store credit for the fish if he would do what i told him and come back after the tank cycled. But he demanded I sell him the fish today as he was haveing a party tonight and he wanted fish in his tank. Needless to say, he is on the do not sell to list.

Unfortunatly there are just some people you cant get through to.

Tell him to come here.... surely he couldn't ignore it if so many different people were telling him he's going about it the wrong way?

ok me and him just got back from the fish store and i convinced him to get 3 glo light tetras 2 ghost shrimp 1 glass fish 1 fire belly gourami so i think he did ok but its all the better i could get him to go

Some people.......like my aunt doesn't care about the fish. They just care about making the person happy(Like my cousin for instance) The first day he had his tank set up he went and bought this huge pleco, thats supposed to grow 18+ inches. He says when It gets too big he'll flush it, or he'll give it to someone.

*twitch* flush the pleco?...Geeeh... *twitch* It just disgusts me how people don't care...They are -fish- people NOT DECORATIONS! *twitch*

Pet stores should just...ban people from buying fish without proof of how long their tank has been set up or something...

It is very worrying with parents who think they can make their children happy by letting them do what they want to other creatures.
I know the temptation- I have a daughter who suffers a lot of pain with a disability, sometimes you feel you'd do anything to see her face light up- but I do keep telling myself that you can never give anyone real happiness by doing something wrong. So we won't be getting that puppy....
Sorry slightly off topic, but it is upsetting when parents can't guide thier children properly.

if the 55 is well established and such like then you can still save the plec.

get some gravel or filter media from the 55 and put it in the 10g.

this will add the bacteria the tanks needs to break down the waste. as long as he only gets litle fish then the bacteria should beable to cope assuming the 55 is heavily stocked aswell.

One of the plusses of fishkeeping is the accidental imparting of knowledge to other people. My son often remarks when an aquarium is shown in the background on tv programmes that they have too many fish in that tank! He is virtually housebound due to a long-term illness (he will recover) and I often catch him looking at the fish, even though he is "not really interested"! At least that's one person who will never cram too many fish into a tank.
